Vaguely remember hearing some PR about it the other day on a security forum after they kinda overplayed their hand. I don't do Android as I never much cared for their idea of security, and google (who does the OS) isn't exactly the first thought I'd have as to privacy protection.

That said, their PR thing didn't show anything particularly threatening about all except for one of the apps mentioned. However there have been numerous OTHER alleged "flashlight apps" that have turned out to be banking trojans, password stealers and worse. There's even botnets now which eat up your cellular data minutes so that ISIS can surf porn on your dime. :)

iOS has a flashlight app built into the OS so that there's no need for something that needs to manipulate the hardware flashlight, that's why they did it as this was a serious issue years ago. And in KNOS, we call the flashlight app your display. You're welcome to crank up the brightness all you want. Heh.

In all seriousness though, any app that can detect and alert on excess and inappropriate system permissions itself is quite useful. But any such app would ALSO require system permissions to do that as well, so the question would be do you trust THESE guys?
