Oh believe me, I tried— the exchange is impossible to navigate.

And I can't get insurance for pre-existing conditions with or without the ACA. My last insurance policy (which lapsed at the end of September) specifically excluded coverage for all of my pre-existing conditions and I have yet to find a plan that will pay for them.
