In MY case, I was pure IND ... worked the D and the only people willing to help out a young white guy from the Bronx was the brothers, who I got along with well. WELL ... that SURE didn't go over with the Stillwell crowd because the crew room was for the "nabe" only and in the dead of winter, we had to stay outside on the platform lest we get the "look" and the catcalls. :(At the same time, TWU was not very well admired by my guys and there was a faction called "Rank and File" up for the election. I helped distribute papers for them to fellow conductors and MM's. It was sorta like a recent TWU election where I helped out the "Rail and Bus" guys. The ATTITUDE about us IND folks though was ... well ... disappointing. So I quickly learned to just stay the hell out of all that stuff, but had some interesting episodes that caused me to just give up on the gig ... not worth bothering with, I;m sure one of the tards here will goad me into talking about it again. :( But man ... Stillwell was an EVIL shop back in the early 70's still. |
