The union issue's resolution is never mentioned. The unionization was the issue. There is NO mention of any union in the article. Don't you read what you attempt to argue with. THIS IS ABOUT THE UNION.

Tennessee plant to build midsize seven-seater for North America starting in 2015

Volkswagen has confirmed plans to move ahead with the midsize CrossBlue crossover. First seen at the Detroit auto show, it's set to go into production at the end of 2015 in Chattanooga, Tenn., Designed to be positioned between the Tiguan and the Touareg, the CrossBlue will nevertheless offer seating for seven, and will use a lengthened version of the modular MQB platform that now underpins the Tiguan and a range of other VW group vehicles.

Volkswagen has shown several versions of the CrossBlue concept since its debut at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show, including a smaller, more rakish version dubbed the CrossBlue Coupe. The five-seater Crossblue Coupe is meant to preview a smaller sister car to the CrossBlue, and like the seven seat version it is meant to address the large price gap between the compact Tiguan and the full-size Touareg. Like the Tiguan, the CrossBlue is being developed to expand Volkswagen's range in the crossover and SUV segments and to offer Volkswagen-priced options to consumers, which is something the Touareg has not been known for offering.

The seven-seat version of the CrossBlue has been well past the concept stage for a few months, and last year Volkswagen gave journalists the opportunity to drive the CrossBlue on a closed test track. The SUV we drove was powered by a diesel-electric hybrid powertrain equipped with a lithium-ion battery, and on the outside it was actually larger and lower than the second-generation Touareg. Whatever the dimensions of the production version of the seven seater end up being, the company plans to ofer transversely-mounted four- and six-cylinder engines in the CrossBlue once it goes into production, which will help keep costs down.

"With the midsize SUV, the expansion of the Chattanooga plant and the new development center, the focus is on the wishes of the US customer. This is also a strong signal for the US as an industrial and automobile production location. The Volkswagen brand is going on the attack again in America," said Prof. Dr. Martin Winterkorn, Chairman of the Board of Management of Volkswagen Aktiengesellschaft, in Wolfsburg.

The recent announcement to award the Chattanooga, Tenn., plant North American production of the SUV also made mention of a second vehicle to join the CrossBlue in 2016, which is likely to be the smaller five-seat wagon previewed as the CrossBlue Coupe.
