What Christians call the "Old Testament" is essentially the Tanakh (Torah plus Neviim plus Ketuvim). In the case of the Protestants, only the books of the Masoretic Tanakh are included; the Catholics include certain books from the Greek version, which don't appear in the Tanakh. The matter of observing the Sabbath is still a matter of large controversy. There is no Biblical command to observe the day after the Sabbath, but it was instead imposed by people like Constantine, and further imposed non-Biblically by the Synod of Laodicea. Jesus was both a Jew and the founder of the original Christian religion, which observed not only the seventh-day Sabbath but also all the festivals in the Torah (e.g. Passover instead of "Easter", and the rest). The Catholic Church was/is a Roman Empire-sanctioned counterfeit, which rejected even what the Apostles (mostly Jewish) taught. |
