Specifically, Christianity is derived from the Torah plus a compilation of Torah fan fiction called the New Testament.

I mean, the Torah promises a messiah to the Jewish people but never actually delivers. Even thousands of years ago, an anticlimactic ending like that will persuade fans to write fix fic to make the guy actually show up.
