Suspicions that terrorists may be responsible for the sudden disappearance and likely crash of a Malaysian Airlines jetliner yesterday, as it was revealed two of the passengers aboard the ship were using stolen passports. The Beijing-bound Boeing 777-200ER vanished from radar off Khota Baru in Malaysia, and no distress call was ever made by the flight crew of MH370. The plane, which was carrying 239 passengers and crew, is thought to have fallen into the South China sea, where Vietnamese rescue craft found a 12-mile oil slick on the water this morning. US Navy ships have also been sent to the search area, and the Malaysian government, which owns part of the airline, has "not ruled anything out" as it tries to ascertain the fate of the aircraft.

Washington officials are said to be "closely monitoring" the progress of the search for the widebody. Its last ADS-B "ping" showed the plane flying at 35,000 feet, about 120 miles off the east coast of Malaysia. The flight crew was described as "highly experienced", and the plane's captain, had 33 years with the airline, comprising over 18,000 hours of flight experience.
