My father did. He voted for Stevenson, JFK, LBJ, McGovern, Carter, and Reagan! I have. I voted for McGovern enthusiastically; if I had it to do all over again (not knowing about Watergate) I'd still vote for McGovern but much less happily.

My brother-in-law voted Republican in every single presidential election through 2004, but voted twice for Obama. But that only indicates that Republicans have become far more conservative, not that he became more liberal.

I think it's a minor effect in general. People like Reagan and CMM who go from one side of the spectrum to the other aren't that common.
