The ruling was not about all forms of relationship being equal, just that there was no rational basis to favor 1 to 1 mappings of different gender couples over same gender couples. The government does not recognize any 1 to n mappings or n to n mappings and for many practical reasons. If they did however they would have to recognize both polygamy and polyandry and all combinations thereof. Hell, the government doesn't have to sanction any marriage at all and just treat everyone as individuals, but in the words of Spider Man they decided that everybody gets one. |
