But the edits made to the talking points clearly indicate that they did know it was an Al Qaeda attack.

In fact, they actually changed (paraphrasing) "We believe it was a spontaneous attack..." to "Currently available information suggests it was a spontaneous attack..."

There is no reason to make that change unless you don't actually believe it was a spontaneous attack, but want people to believe it was. They are parsing words for the purpose of getting people to believe something that they don't believe themselves. (Memories of "It depends on what the meaning of the word "is" is")
