MTA Orion VII NG

Hello Everyone,

I spotted an Orion VII NG Today in MTA colors, with all MTA specifications. It seems that this one is indeed one of the production units. It had the triple number run box, and some other minor details that can be found on the MTA units.

It looks exactly like the demonstrator #1295 did. I have two pictures, but to be honest, I've no idea how to put them up on this website. Any help would be appreciated, and I can post them!

Thanks,

You'll have to do it via an image-hosting site such as flickr.com or photobucket.com; someone here will, I'm sure, be more than happy to provide you with full instructions on how to do it successfully.

May I ask where you saw the new bus?

1. You have to upload them to a photo hosting site. find you you like. I use Flickr, but Tinypic might be better since it's quicker for a beginner to start uploading.

2. After they finish getting up onto the website, there should be an area with a bunch of text that says something like "Embed" or "Post on other fourms".

3. Copy and paste the code in your post. The code should look like this (no spaces after "<" and before "/>"): < img src="IMG URL (the address of the image)" alt="Name of the photo (you can leave this blank if you want)" />

4. Make sure you preview your post. If the photos show, post the message, and you're good. If not, the code might be wrong.

If you keep hitting problems, you could just email the photos to me and I'll put them up for you.

Here it is. Thanks for the help with uploading. The bus doesn't seem to be fully painted/decalled. The rear cap looks to be black, as I saw black paint at by the clearance light on the rear side.

Can anyone notice the three sets of lights whcih look like the "reverse" clear lights on the sides of the bus below the windows? What the heck is that for???

Nice photo.

Is that a multicolored front sign, or is that just a result of the lighting? It looks a bit lighter in color than the standard amber LEDs.

Based on how 1292 and 1295 were painted, I believe the new fleet will have a mostly white rear end treatment.

"I just don`t see myself excepting these buses" Well, unless you work for NYCT/MTA Regional Bus and your that is your job, it really won`t matter. It will be your decision to either ride them or let it go by & wait for the next bus hoping it will be a different model. I know lots of riders who refused to ride the Command CNG / RTS`s & waited for either a Classic or Orion V. The powers that be don`t give a darn what any of us historians think or like.

That's a radical design change from here. You sure it's still a VII? Or am I confused, and our current models are the VI? From the 'Hybrid Elctric' decal, I assume NG in this case does not mean Natural Gas.

The Orion VII NG "Next Generation" is roughly the same thing as the garden-variety Orion VII. The differences are a radically redesigned front end, a somewhat-changed rear end, and frameless side windows. Other than that, it's the same bus.

By the way, this is what the rear looks like (although it seems as though the top panel will be initially painted black on the first order of NGs):

Your forgetting one thing: the part of the bus where the windows are upper level everything under that is painted black. So thats a difference too. Unless thats the window where that part is too. Is it?

The black paint isn't really a design difference, it's a difference in specifications by the customer.

What is that extra "hump" towards the rear of the bus? The standard Orion VIIs don't have that hump but the NGs, such as 1295 above, do.

remember the mta has yet to accept the bus and give the ok for the full order to be produced. two units were produced and this may be the third due 5/26/08. this info courtesy of dmcr a poster at transitstuff who knows someone at the orion plant. if mta gives the ok 850 units will be produced over 2-3 years. 745 go to nyct and the balance to mta bus. first 30 were to go to yukon depot beginning 8/1/08.we will see what happens.
