I was walking past the bus garage / lot on the Eastern side of Roosevelt Island and shot a few quick pictures from outside the chained fence. The last picture was previously posted but provides almost a full side view. For the most part these diesels do not all pull daily service as the Electric Hybrids run during most rush hours. Hence the RIST fleet has two sets of buses with call numbers 1 - 4.

Nice pics. It sure would be nice if they would be used again [elsewhere if not RI].

They should come up with a modified paint scheme with some white trim instead of it looking like a red box.

I think thats the idea to blend in with the island and not to stand out. But your right it needs white added someplace its blah.

The blending in concept does make sense and I am sure that was probably the original reason. The newer hybrids at least with white lettering look a lot nicer.

The hybrids run middays too. It would have been nice to catch diesel one.

Internally, from a passenger's perspective anyway, there are minimal differences between the diesels and the hybrids. One annoying minor differece is the rear exit door where the hybrids open out nicely but the diesels swing in / slide in (like pocket doors) very often catching a passenger off guard.

Roosevelt island residents like many bus riders are bad about moving to the rear and with a raised rear seating section it is only worse. I like sitting in the rear section of the diesels as they have e nice big rear window.

I like the below video as it catches a hybrid driving behind this diesel:
