Even up close, the bus looks ugly outside, but inside, it has suburban style seating (at least behind the back door).

Pictures of my own will be posted tonight---shot at Times Square. And don't go looking for this bus now, for it has pulled into the garage.

I guess I'm the only one who could give a damn what it looks like. The big problem I see with it is that it's yet another attempt to shoehorn gas turbine engines into inappropriate applications. USDOT has squandered billions trying to make gas turbine locomotives only to end up with some shortlived M1s, 15 year old French trainsets sitting in Bear DE, and a pork barrel project for Bombardier which yielded one demo locomotive. Just what we need to do, hand another multimillion dollar R&D contract to a foreign company to confirm that yes, gas turbines are a bad idea in so volatile an environment.

If we're gonna do pork couldn't we at least try to keep the money here in the states? Hell, if Manhattan wants quieter streetlevel transit then build some LRT networks. The rest of the US has figured it out, surely NYC can catch up.

What is this, the Wachovia Bank corporate bus? If folks think it is ugly now, what until the NYC MTA paint scheme (pardon the expression!) is applied.
In all honesty, bearing in mind all the boxiness of today's breed of buses, I like this. Yes, it seems that when it comes to North American bus designs, the imagination is squashed. Foreign manufacturers have managed to think "outside the box", in more ways than one.

Thanks for the larger pic, so I can rally see that eyesore on wheels. That RTS behind is so much larger compared to that bus. Again, what brain dead dummy in the MTA said DAAAAHHHHH YESSSS! (with slobber running down their retarded mouths) to testing s smaller capacity bus, for growing ridership?

Don't be surprised if the next subway train order is actually something that looks like, and is the size of a roller coaster. It would be tested on the Lexington Line. What better place to put a smaller people mover, other than a line that needs increased (or at least the same) capacity.

The design, and model, however, are nowhere near new (and so I wouldn't exactly classify this as pork...but rather an off-the-shelf bus US-spec). Tokyo and Hong Kong has been running this technology since 2003 with success.

This technology has been used since 2000 (the major R&D spent on this model was for the Sydney Olympics) by this company.

Thanks for sharing the pic! It is a nice departure from the usual and sometimes boring North American design.
I find it funny that, while people are entitled to their own opinion, they are so quick to judge this bus.
Regarding the width, if this bus does become sucessful in North America, I'm sure a 102' wide version would be developed. IIRC, 98' is the maximum width allowed in Australia and New Zealand.

I'll probably get flamed for this but I think it is grotesque. I thought the first hybrids were ugly but each successive model looks more and more peculiar.

NG look good....at first NG look out of place to me and I didn't really like it.,but thoses new buses really look out of place and the look weird...I'll be happy to see NG come here sooner than later....My question is...if MTA get theses buses, they will also get NG too?
