When they were originally on the express routes they weren't that bad. It was only when they were recycled and used on local routes that people cut up the seats and broke the recline button. |

I've actually gotten the recline button to work in certain situations, however the seat back doesn't stay in one position when reclined.Queens Surface, Command and Triboro ran soft-seat Orion V CNGs on local lines prior to the takeover (and after it, MTA Bus ran soft-seaters on locals for a while as well.) These seats weren't as terrible as the RTS suburban seats (plus, they were different) -- I think that it's an issue with the seat as well as the vandalism. |

I don't think it's primarily an issue of vandalism, although I can't deny that vandalism is part of the problem.I think it's primarily an issue of overuse. Local buses have much more rapid turnover than express buses, so those seats get used much more heavily than they did in express service. The recline button works on most UP suburban seats. But why on earth would you want to recline? The only time I push the recline button is to raise the seat back. |

I always found it a bit strange that CP will run the 7200s (former TCC expresses) and 8500s (former QSC expresses) on the Q65A- even in rush hour. But the lines that run through downtown Flushing- namely the 25, 34, 65, 66 and QBX1- use strictly the hard-seated 98 and 9900s.The 65A gets just as crowded in rush hour as the other named routes, and those aisle-narrowing suburban seats just don't mix well with crowds. Those immovable armrests are also an impediment to easy sitting and standing. On those occasions when I have to use the 65A out of Forest Hills during the PM rush, I'd rather hold out for a hard-seater. The suburban O5s make sense on the relatively lightly-used Q104. I haven't especially paid attention, but it looks like the 67, 101 and 102 use primarily hard-seaters. And I haven't seen a 103 in years. |

The aisle on those O5 CNG Soft Seats are not narrow. They got the same amount of room as the hard seaters. I take the Q65A about once a week and it seems to do well with the soft seat O5 CNG's. A O5 CNG soft seat on the QBX1 does pop up from time to time and I think they have at least 1 a day on that line. I know over the summer on saturday's I have rode on a few Ex Triboro O5 CNG's on the Q25 and I have not seen a Ex Triboro(Or a Ex QSC Soft Seat) on the Q25 since the summer time. I think the 7200's have better A/C but idk. |

I usually see a 72xx on the Q67 and the Q104. I think the driver on the Q104 prefers the 72xx as opposed to the Orion local for whatever reason. I remember back in November, I saw 7243 on the QBX1. They are rare on lines such as the Q25, Q34 and the Q66 but they do pop up from time to time.At the same time, I have seen locals on the express. |

As far as the situation with the O7 on the QM18, I personally didn't have a problem with it mainly because obviously the depot didn't have enought of the Cruisers to make that trip-so they had to substitute at last minute. Long as it's not happening 3 times every week for example.In my opinion, the seats "are" part of the service. I know this is a bus forum, but I'm going to talk about rail transit just to get my point across. Back in the '80s when the LIRR had their strike, a lot of Long Islanders as well as a lot of people in Far Rockaway were "forced" to ride the "A" train. The first thing people started doing when they boarded the train was to look for the overhead racks (mind you, this was an R44 we were on). When they didn't find that, then they started banging on the seats asking "where is the cushion?". Trust me, they noticed the difference in a quick fast hurry. Boy the whole thing was histerical. Now, I know it sounds stupid, after all they were on a subway train, not a commuter railroad, but they actually expected the same service that they were "accustomed" to on the LIRR-even though they were paying less. I said all of this because most of the passengers of the express buses in the NYC area are "accustomed" to certain "services" such as soft seats, having a seat (not standing), overhead lighting and racks, especially those traveling on the ex-LL and NYBS routes. After over 30 years of these things, you start rolling hard seated transit style buses-trust me they will notice and they will raise hell. That's the point I was trying to make. |

I have seen soft seaters on the Q66 not very often as well as the Q65. I know a few weeks ago I saw 8576 on the Q66 Woodside short trip on a sunday. I know the soft seaters normally show's up on the express routes, Q65A, Q67, Q102, and Q103. The only reason why the Q65A has soft seaters is because just about all of them are the oldest buses from CP and it's the shortest line out of that garage. |

Some of the people on the QM1/QM1A give me crazy looks if I decide to stand on the bus if there are no seats left. I don't really care about having a seat but I only care about where I have to get to. I have gotten used to standing up because I take the local buses pretty often and I take the subway sometimes. While paying higher means to expect something like soft seats and other goodies for alot of people, I am not like that. I only pay $5 is because the QM1 Downtown get's me downtown pretty quickly(40-55 Mins) and not having to transfer not even once. If I went the local bus+subway I have to transfer 2 times and takes a little over an hour(Around 1 hr and 10 Mins to 1 hr and 20 Mins) |
