What was 3557 doing on the QM18 last night? Did they run out of D4500s or something?

Oh, man! That must've been something!

It looks SO out of place.

I wonder how many people mistook it for an M7.

I also wonder how many people forked over five bucks to ride that thing.

That would be anybodys response. I think passengers would've been more pissed if a bus didn't show up at all. I don't know what happened to the bus assigned to it but hopefully they've straightened it out. As much as it sucks to ride a hard seater all the way back from the city, at least something showed up. If it was Green Lines, there wouldn't be a replacement for 2 hours.

Paying a premium fare comes with the assumption that there'll be a comfortable ride. A bus that has an irritating engine and that sways from side to side every time it hits a pothole isn't comfortable.

You're right... the QM18 riders deserve the absolute best. Even though that the route is largely duplicated by faster, cheaper, more efficient subway lines (gasp -- anything but the subway!), they need expensive cruisers with fancy seats and reading lights.

Honestly, passengers are passengers, if they didn't like the O7 than they really didn't think of the fact that there was no other bus available. In a way the MTA made the customers happy by providing a bus to get them home rather than leaving them there but the passenger wouldn't realize it.

A few weeks ago, I did spot 5944 on the QM15. At the time it was spotted, I did not have my camera handy.
A few months ago, 4227 was used on the QM15. Again, no camera.
Seems like an awkward bus is used on the Express Routes at JFK/Far Rock from time to time.

I miss the Classics now. I think I've only been on them a total of 4 or 5 times in my life but I liked the seats (even though IIRC they didn't recline?), the overhead compartment which I think I hit my head on once and the "NEXT STOP" light as opposed to "Stop Request." I don't remember if the reading lights were working on the ones I rode but I think I prefer a Classic over a Cruiser.

I know that from College Point, 3197 was the 12:00N QM1A out of Lake Success every day for a while (not sure if it still is) and another poster here has reported riding the same exact bus on the same exact run and time day after day for certain periods on the QM3. So maybe College Point does this, but I don't know about the others.

I know that for a time I never saw 3213 on anything but the BM4, and I rode that bus from Church/E 7 St to Ave P/Nostrand two days in a row, same run, same driver.

If it's only once in a blue moon like I hope this time it is, I'd be fine with it, but not on a regular basis.

On a side note, I notice that often on express buses the driver distinctly waits until all fares are paid before closing the doors, probably b/c of the slightly larger amount of money in limbo.

IMO, by 2014, the ENTIRE fleet should be hybrid buses, for ALL services (and no special seats for express services if they still exist).

Preferably, it would be one model at all depots...the O7 diesel electric. (The O7 CNGs would be put up for sale.)

What would be done if it were up to me, ideally, would be 35' and 40' O7 HEVs (35' for Nassau County and Staten Island). This would be similar to how it appears SEPTA might be moving in the future, for only one manufacturer: New Flyer (hopefully D(E)35LFs, (D)(E)40LFs, and D(E)60LFs.

I've seen a Yukon Nova RTS on the X17 before but it still had a full load of people on it.
