Posted by Mack C-49 on Wed Oct 7 23:45:34 2026 I grew up in Brooklyn in the 1950s and I remember well the C50 Bingham Macks and the C49s which arrived in 1956 (and soon mostly disappeared to Staten Island.) I also remember the St. Louis Trolley buses and the GM 4000s, and even the Twins which ran in downtown Brooklyn. However, I don't remember ever seeing a Transit Authority C45DT Mack. In the late 50s, I saw Surface Transit C45DTs in Manhattan, but never any Transit Authority C45DTs. However, I have seen lots of pictures of Transit Authority Mack C45DTs.When were they purchased? Where did they run? When were they sold or scrapped? |

There were two very similar models: C-45 GT built in 1948, road nos. 1960-61. Then there was the single unit C-45 DT built in 1949, road nos 1962. The city acquired an amazing number of new buses between 1948 and 1950 including those C-45 Macks, Twins, the St. Louis 3000s, the GM 4000s and the Bingham C-50 Mack 5000s. I also remember 35' GMs numbered in the 2000s which ran in Queens in the late 1950s. Some of these several models ran well into the 1960s. Did any of them have a life elsewhere after their service in NYC? |
