W.B.'s Bus Almanac for October 11th

Posted by W.B. on Mon Oct 11 09:08:45 2021

October 11, 1924 - The Book of Route Operational Changes

The Bronx, New York
Concourse Bus Lines
Fifth Avenue Coach Company

Effective as of this date, Fifth Avenue Coach assumes operation of two Bronx bus routes, the Concourse-138th Street (which they will designate as Route 12) and Concourse-Hub (which they will designate as Route 14) lines, which had previously been run by Concourse Bus Lines from their 1921 startup. These are the only routes Fifth Avenue Coach operated in the Bronx, and the only ones they took over from other operators and did not start from scratch. FACCo's operation of these routes will end on May 28, 1928, after which they will be taken over by a relatively new entity, Surface Transportation Corporation of New York, which will rebrand them as Bx-1 and Bx-2, respectively (and had sued, and won an injunction against, FACCo over that company's Bronx presence), after the city gave the company an exclusive franchise to operate buses in the Bronx.

October 11, 1971 - The Book of First Runs

Manhattan, New York
New York City Transit Authority
Manhattan Bus Division

Beginning this date, a new branch of the M-3 - 49th-50th Streets Crosstown line is launched, terminating west at 41st Street and Eighth Avenue across from the Port Authority Bus Terminal.

When did Surface Transportation Corp come into existence and was it always a subsidiary of Third Ave RR?

May I use a link below to a thread I instigated six years ago about Bx3 on Prospect Avenue? It may again have points of interest.
