Service on a new branch of the 3 - Fifth Avenue line is launched on this date, traveling in upper Manhattan via Convent Avenue as opposed to St. Nicholas Avenue.

When I used the 3 bus to get to Wash Hts I preferred the Convent Av route over the St Nicholas route.

As you will see over tomorrow's Bus Almanac, the 3's description of "...via St. Nicholas and Convent Avenues" for years after 1939 would be duplicated in a clunky "merger" of two routes (one FACCo, one NYCO) into "one" with two branches. (What good it did that, one of them would be eliminated in three years' time.)
