I lived in East New York in the 60's and by the time I left in 67 it was a bad place to be. Today it's not much better according to a cop I know who still works out of the 75th precinct there. But he says the arsons that chased me out or the drugs of the 80's aren't the big problem there any more, it's guns. So at least they didn't shoot the bus driver.

As it is the current laws and penalties in regards to assaulting transit workers are clearly not enough.

Naturally this "bail reform" thing weakens the laws more. di Blaso can give this guy Met tickets so he can attack a #7 conductor and get even more Met tickets.

ENY went from a stable Italian & Jewish neighborhood to a violent slum area in the time period you lived there. An incredible story of rapid decline.

That transformation of ENY is the setting of "The Last Angry Man" (book and movie).

The best law in the universe is only as good was the worst enforcement of that law.

Yikes. My grandparents last house was in East New York, both lived there until they died (grandfather in 1965, grandmother in 1976). My parents and I lived with them for the first year and a half until they purchased their own home in 1964. Even after that, I was over there all the time. I rode the B15's predecessor, the B10 many times. I always felt reasonably safe, of course I was never out late at night. Hopefully, the skels are caught swiftly.
