Posted by IRTRedbirdR33 on Wed Sep 11 09:53:20 2019

Tuscarora Almanac - September 11, 1977 - The Book of First Runs

Jamaica, New York
New York City Transit Authority
Queens Bus Division

A new bus route known as the Q-49 Jamaica Avenue Limited begins service today. It will operate along Jamaica Avenue between 168 Street and Queens Boulevard stopping only at 160 Street and Sutphin Boulevard replacing the Jamaica Avenue subway line which was cut back to Queens Boulevard. Free Transfers are issued at that location to the subway trains.

Always found it amusing that given the importance and cachet of Queens Boulevard, the only subway stop named for it was located at Queens Boulevard's smallest and most undistinguisted point.

(OTOH, one of the first McDonald's in Queens was at the intersection of Queens Blvd. and Jamaica Ave. So perhaps not so undistinguished after all.)

That last block of Queens Boulevard is weird. It was never widened, so it’s an ordinary two lane undivided local street. A mighty contrast from the rest of the road. Not only that, but it just abruptly drops off at Hillside, like they forgot to build the last block (this actually makes sense, though).
