MTA Bus service cuts, including S74/S78 to every half hour Sundays

Posted by BrooklynTrain on Mon Jul 22 07:17:13 2019

They're obviously counting the number of paid admissions on these buses, and as we all know, the S74/S78 has severe farebeating, particularly in the Tompkinsville/Stapleton area.

Why run a free "farebeating" bus every 15 minutes? Let the farebeaters wait 30 minutes for a bus. They can knock each other out trying to squeeze themselves on the bus along with all the other freeloaders. Perhaps they should cut to every 60 minutes next time around. If people complain, too bad, since perhaps finally NYC politicians will start enforcing the fare then.

If you don't pay, you get cuts in service. Good for the MTA.

As the link from Morningside states, not every route is getting a service cut.

New attic routes will be of course to save on labor.

On SI, the S53 will be increased. No fare beaters on that route?

In regards to the S74/S78 service cuts on Sundays, upon looking at the current schedule, the cuts will be made to the short turns only. The busses doing the entire trip will remain the same.

You get an occasional dipping of an empty Metrocard on an S53/S79, but the vast majority of people pay, likely since they need the free transfer to the subway. The epidemic is in the North Shore area.

Labor costs are higher on artic buses than on regular buses, but there still are savings due to less service.

The extra dollar the bus operator gets for operating an artic saves transit money because less operators are needed for the route. Fewer buses required.

less service vs. finally getting articulated buses I can ride whenever I want... Actually a tough decision for me...

What would happen if there are no artics left in the depot and the artic B/O is assigned a non- artic bus ?

Does artics really reduce service frequency? I'm not familiar of the ridership of these mentioned routes.

Or if you are scheduled for an artic and it gets pulled in a snow emergency?

We need a b/o to answer that.

IMO if no artic is available, or snow emergency, I don't see why the b/o should be penalized the dollar. The premium might be in the computer system already as part of what the job pays.

When I worked the Franklin shuttle on Labor Days (Carribean Festival on Eastern Pky.) they gave me a partner but did not take away my OPTO premium because I picked OPTO and they put in a supplement schedule.

Let’s not go Down the demographics sinkhole and focus on the facts . Places that have high fare evasion should have increased enforcement and penalties . Consistent enforcement will Lea all but the truely bad people to pay. People are copy cats, you don’t pay, I don’t pay .

If you can’t pay the fine you need to work off the fine cleaning stations or something that benefits the mta . What needs to be different that the current probation work programs is that the person paying the penalty should be treated with dignity and respect and taught a skill ( clear I g how to properly mop or sweep or landscape is a quality skill ) I see the workfare and probation people in the park. Supervisor sits in running air condition or heated truck and workers just do half tail work .
