S.I. SIM schedules available on the GTFS site

Posted by Dan on Fri Jul 13 16:43:23 2018

The info was uploaded on 7/12/2018 and again on 7/13/2018.

SI GTFS zip file

I did a quick download of the 7/12/18 files into MS Access to get a rough idea of what the service will be like. I apologize for any errors as I'm not an IT guy by any means.

Thanks for your help, Dan.

Pathetic. They're still keeping the crappy hourly reverse-peak headways on the SIM1C. And they have a gap in Downtown service between 4:07am (SIM1C) and 5:16am (SIM5) with only SIM10 buses in the middle. And that's just at that one stop.

Here's an Excel file of the express bus schedules: https://uploadfiles.io/rh1dv#.W0kmOFOoL3M.facebook . I tried filtering out the schedules, but I see too much messed up stuff that I hope it was just me being tired when I filtered it out.

I added some info to your spreadsheet. Some S61 runs had 'SIM' trip id# but I left them in anyway.

Rideschedules.com pulls the latest GTFS data and organizes it in a usable manner. The SIM schedules are available there too.

Thank you so much for that site!

If the data from RideSchedules.com is accurate, the off-peak service will be absolutely ridiculous. Check out my blog post for more information: http://checkmatechamp1.blogspot.com/2018/07/spans-and-frequencies-of-sim-routes.html

If I read the spreadsheet correctly, it looks like there'll be a large gap in early morning service along Victory Blvd/South Gannon Ave.

1. It seems that the SIM 32 will have a span of service that's nearly identical to today's x11 (I guess that means they like the x11...). The first one will hit South Gannon at ~6:30 AM, the last one at ~ 8:45 AM (depending on your exact stop along there).

2. But they plan to run the SIM 4c only until about 5:20 AM!! In between, there will only be the SIM 33. So during that 1 hr, 10 minute period, if you need to get to the Bowling Green/Whitehall area, including a transfer to the 4/5 subway to Brooklyn, you're S-O-L

I guess (but I didn't check) that the SIM 4c will end so early as they plan to start the peak SIM 4 early. I used to live in New Springville- I don't remember what time the x17Astarted, but it was definitely later than the x17J.

Whatever the case, if they don't want to simultaneously run the SIM 4 and SIM4c, they need the SIM 33 and 32 to have nearly identical spans of service- just as the present x10B and x11 do.

For people who need the very south of downtown early-ish in the morning- whether they work on Bowling Green/Beaver St/Whitehall or need the subway to Brooklyn, it's a ridiculously long walk from West/Carlisle Sts.- all the more so in winter.

As for the folks who need Trinity/Rector and Church/Fulton, thy might do just ok (but not great) with West/Carlisle (real close to Rector) and West/Vesey (they can walk through the Oculus, protected from the elements.

But it's still dumb- if there's no SIM4c, run both the SIM 33 and the 32!!

Check the evening schedules. The last SIM32 leaves at 6:45pm and the next SIM4C reaches Worth Street at 7:41pm. The last SIM34 leaves at 7pm, and the last SIM3C gets there at 8:32pm. Savvy riders have a shot at taking the 7:24pm SIM33 from Vesey Street but that whole evening schedule looks like a mess.

They will most likely tweak the services down the line as time goes by.

That's a big mess. So if I miss the last SIM 32, I have wait nearly an hour for a SIM 4C that'll probably be packed? Geez...

Yeah, I'm sure of that. But the introductory period will have some sucky elements.

My primary route is now the x11, which seems like it will be virtually unchanged, except for the renaming to SIM 32 and closing a small number of stops on SI. OK, so I can breathe easy there. But going in to work early or leaving for home a bit late seems like it might be very problematic.

That's probably one of the reasons the new scheds take effect before Labor Day.

Also keep the local bus options in the back of your mind. SIM1 to Fingerboard or Hylan for the S93, and then walk (or for that matter, the R to the S93 directly). Not ideal, but better than worrying if you're going to fit onto the next bus that comes.

I don't see too many SI commuters leaving the comfy express bus for the crowded uncomfy S93 or S79sbs.

'SIM' signs going up all along Hylan but so far they seem to have missed the big express stop at Hylan Blvd & Cannon Blvd.

If the express bus is standing room only to the front door (or worse, if it bypasses you in that condition) it won't be too comfy.

These routes should be taken over by the MTA.
