This is sort of a dark horse of NYC busses. Anyway, I can say for certain that it does not operate on Saturday during the say and I suspect not even Saturday night.:-) Andrew |

I don't think they have Sunday Service at all as the areas they serve are predominately Hasidic Jewish. Saturday is what I believe their Sabath day, so I think they all stay in the house. |

B110 does not have saturday service-if they do-it is normally after sundown. The line is a jewish route-hasidic jews operate the line and they are not allowed to run the line on the sabbath. bus operates every 15-20 minutes and is run by Private transportation. No, they certainly don't stay in the house -- they go to shul, visit friends and family in the neighborhood, and take walks. But they don't use any form of motorized transport.(And I assume you mean Saturday in your first sentence.) |

It probably isn't much different, except the buses will run later on Friday (probably until 7:00 or 7:30) this time of year, and won't start running until later (definitely not before 9:00) on Saturday night, if at all.Best bet is to call (718) 875-8200 to find out the schedule. |

The primary clientele of these private bus routes doesn't ride buses on their Sabbath. IINM, the drivers are also members of their community, so they wouldn't be able to drive the buses even if there were demand. |

The only reason this line exists at all is that many years ago the Borough Park Community approached the TA and asked for a direct route between Borough Park and Williamsburg. The TA naturally refused, saying there would not be enough demand to justify such a service. So they established their own company and began this service. For that, I give them credit. They didn't just accept no for an answer.Similarly, the TA turned down virtually every private express bus route which was accepted by the private operators (before recently being taken over by MTA Bus). Then the TA had the "chutzbah" to complain that the Bureau of Franchises awarded all the favorable express bus routes to private companies and not to them. |

When the van stopped EVERYONE on the block stopped what they were doing and stared at it as I got out. (Mind you, it was summertime, so there were lots of people out.) Not by any bus company or DOT rule but by religious custom. Someone once posted on the old board, that if someone, who is not familiar with the custom, sits in the "wrong" section, the driver cannot and will not say anything. Usually one of the male passengers will explain the custom to the new rider and request they change their seat.I am not religious but believe that if the request is not followed then all the passengers on that side of the bus will get up and stand in the back of the bus. |
