If this has been posted already, I apologize.

Four of the Transit Museum’s vintage buses are headed to Governors Island for a summer getaway! Our Vintage Bus Bash will transport visitors back to the 1940s and 1950s.

Come see iconic "fishbowl" windows, the first air-conditioned bus in the country, the bus model that Jackie Gleason drove in his role on the Honeymooners, and more. No bus fare needed - this event is free!

Save the dates!
Saturday, July 11 & Sunday, July 12
11am-4pm

If they don't fit on the ferry, they will be floated over on specially designed spittoons.

The Samuel S. Coursen operates between Governors Island and Manhattan. She can handle the food trucks that regularly come and go there. Not so sure about buses though.

Assuming that this is a serious post the answer is yes. The ferryboat is the LT. SAMUEL S. COURSEN. She was built for the Governor's Island service and can easily handle the buses.

Here's an interesting fact for those who might not already know:

The waiting room of the Staten Island Ferry terminal at St George has monitors showing the position of each boat in the harbor, similar to the web site I linked to earlier.

It looks like a small ferry that can only handle cars, not buses.

Although she is smaller than the Staten Island boats the COURSEN is bigger than she looks. She was built for the US Army back when Governor's Island was the headquarters for the US First Army. She can handle tanks, heavy equipment trucks and tractor trailers. She also is the oldest operating ferryboat in New York Harbor and well worth a visit.

There is a smaller ferry that runs from Brooklyn Bridge Park for passengers (no vehicles) only on weekends. People might see pictures of that and be misled. The Coursen is not small. Also, they were going to buy another older ferry from New England and refurb it and put it into operation during peak periods, but I don't know if that ever took place. That one was a little larger than the Coursen.

That conversion never took place. The vessel was a double-ended with clamshell doors. It would have required major rebuilding of both the vessel and the ferry slips.

Thanks, curiosity got the best of me so I had to go back and look at what happened. It seems they actually bought the old "Islander" ferry, planned to remove the clamshell doors (it formerly crossed rougher open waters) found out how much it would really cost to fix her up, and ended up selling her for scrap and taking a beating.

They probably could only use buses that could move on their own power AND could fit on the ferry. That means the double deckers are out, anything that can't move on its own is out, and anything recently retired is definitely out.
