NJT Bus Crash |
|
Posted by HART BUS on Sat May 2 09:29:39 2015 Saw on the news last night that an NJT bus (#58xx) was hit by a truck. The driver and several passengers were injured. Truck ran a slight and caused the front of the bus to look as if it were on an angle. Possibly frame damage. |

Drunk driver at the wheel. His passenger and several passengers on the bus are in critical condition, bus driver ok but taken for observation. NBC4 New York - NJT Bus Crash Coincidentally, my dad was T-boned by a red-light runner in that same spot during his driving days in the 60s... I'll have to ask if he was on the 34 as well, or could have been his usual 6 Crosstown (now NJT 96). A Newark cop was a block away on Central and saw the whole thing, so was on scene for when Dad started yelling at the other driver, "Didn't you see that red light?" The cop deadpanned, "He didn't see that bus, did he?" Dad said he had to step away and laugh. |

His brother worked out of Miller Street, then was a road supervisor, and finally a garage supervisor at Hackensack. Another uncle worked out of Orange though the late 70s. |

You could choose any three letters, so Dad had his name KEN, his brother had his name DON, and my other uncle (Mom's bro-in-law) had his initials GLC. |

I remember the existence of Lake Street as a kid in the 80's and 90's when we'd visit relatives who lived in Forest Hill. It's funny, somehow I always knew I'd wind up driving for NJ Transit. Loooong story short, it had been my "Option B" for quite some time and, well, here I am and it was the best move I ever made. Started part time at Market Street and made full time at Oradell. |

I have a plain black Dickies jacket that I got custom embroidered with the Public Service logo on one side and the "TNJ" logo on the other... you should see how many heads that turned! |

NJT used to sell t-shirts at the Howell roadeo with both the PS and NJT logos on them. I had one from the 1996 roadeo, no idea where it is if I still have it, and it would no longer fit anyway... |

Orange directly replaced Roseville (Orange Street and S. 16th - was "in the way" of the incoming I-280) and Greenwood Avenue (DeCamp's current home). Miller Street was just off Frelinghuysen on the south side of Newark, and its routes went to Hilton, along with 18th Avenue's routes. The last Lake Street routes also ended up at Orange. |

I have a degree in it but careerwise it didn't work out right. Scant opportunities and I don't do well in office settings. I won't rule it out in the future though. |
