Posted by kcram3500 on Sat May 2 09:53:26 2015, in response to NJT Bus Crash, posted by HART BUS on Sat May 2 09:29:39 2015. 5952 on the 34 Market Street, intersection of Central Avenue and S. 8th Street in Newark (an intersection I know quite well, friends and relatives in that area).And it was actually a car that hit the bus, not a truck... it may have looked like a pickup after the fact, since they had to cut the roof off to get the passenger out. Drunk driver at the wheel. His passenger and several passengers on the bus are in critical condition, bus driver ok but taken for observation. NBC4 New York - NJT Bus Crash Coincidentally, my dad was T-boned by a red-light runner in that same spot during his driving days in the 60s... I'll have to ask if he was on the 34 as well, or could have been his usual 6 Crosstown (now NJT 96). A Newark cop was a block away on Central and saw the whole thing, so was on scene for when Dad started yelling at the other driver, "Didn't you see that red light?" The cop deadpanned, "He didn't see that bus, did he?" Dad said he had to step away and laugh. |
