" We are very excited to announce that Nassau County has purchased 52 new 40 feet buses from New Flyer! These buses are scheduled to be delivered early 2016, and will replace our oldest vehicles in the fleet: those buses that are at least 12 years old with a minimum of 500,000 miles in service. This delivery will greatly improve the stability and reliability of our fleet.

Our real time (Clever Devices Bus Time) app will be available for customers starting in June 2015 "

As Gold said Suffolk doesn't have CNG fuel. Suffolk is more into clean diesel and I don't think they would ever make the switch.

I forgot to say that unless New Flyer has a clean diesel version and most likely the cheapest to bid, then I don't think that you will see a new Flyer in Suffolk's fleet. Suffolk always seems to go with the lowest bidder.

We know they have a clean diesel version, they are showing up in quantity in NYC. As to price, that is a different story. When there is Federal grant money or direct funding, you are almost always required to go lowest acceptable bid. No Fed money, many jurisdictions (I don't know the Suffolk rules) allow an evaluated or negotiated acquisition. You can see that difference in MTA's process for the recent MTA/BC versus MTA/NYCT bus purchases.

I don't see Suffolk getting the Gillig lf model.. yet the majority of the fleet is Gillig phantoms. Did they buy the orion vii model cause it was cheaper at the time?

I am not particularly knowledgeable about the SC purchases. I would point out that Orions were very popular in NY funded "purchases by evaluation" because of the high NY content. Upstate politicians who don't have any love for us "downstaters" didn't mind as much when a bunch of the money flowed back to their districts.

I the Orion VII based on price and probably because the final assembly was done in New York. Near the end of the Levy administration Suffolk was heavily in the buy New York movement or from companies that did busniess in New York, something along those lines.

The last bus order was brought with part Federal money, which explains the lowest bid.

I'm not sure of Suffolk's whole process since Suffolk seems to do things more low key, or at least nobody ever seems to find stuff out ahead of time like with the MTA or NICE. (I mean nobody knew about the last bus order until Orion announced it in a press release.)
