I believe its both, the two will be used as a test on highly used routes the 1, 12, and 22. If it goes well then I think the rest will be ordered primarily for BRT as planned. |

They'll replace the last LFS's and keep the fleet fresh until the next non-artic contract goes out. Remember, CDTA wants to try to go 12 and out and the earliest the oldest Gilligs can be retired is 2019.I feel old now. |

Posted by Lothian on Mon Dec 15 01:27:53 2014, in response to Re: CDTA Articulated Bus Purchase, posted by daimler.buses on Fri Dec 12 22:35:31 2014. From the CDTA Board minutes:"On October 6, 2014 staff received 1 proposal, even though there are two known manufacturers of articulated buses that meet all Buy America requirements. One manufacturer declined to participate in the industry standard “request for approved equals” process." Could be that the specs requested by CDTA were too specific or too different from standard Nova specs to make this a viable bid for them. |

Actually, I just noticed there was more information:"The manufacturer who chose not to submit a proposal stated that the approved equal process would take too much time and they declined to participate in that process. Staff did encourage the manufacturer to participate in the process and made every effort to show flexibility in acceptance of different styles and parts to ensure full and open competition, but the manufacturer still declined to participate." |

It does seem that Nova has plenty of business right now but you'd think they would want to do business in the state capital where they have their U.S. plant. |

Ironically, Nova is apparently interested in the next ABQ RIDE order (which is tentatively for 25 40-foot CNG buses to replace the remaining Neoplans), since they sent an LFS CNG demo to Albuquerque for ABQ RIDE to test. However, they showed zero interest in the Valley Metro/City of Phoenix contract for over 300 40/60-foot diesel and CNG buses total. However, I did hear that CDTA did get a Nova LFS artic demo to test as well. If that is the case, I wonder if they will bid on ABQ RIDE's next contract (I expect at least New Flyer and Gillig to do so). |

It's not red tape. these processes are there for a reason. In fact, the approved equal process is actually fairer since it provides a more level playing field to all parties. |

I don't think these Gilligs are good in Northeastern weather being their build in California. Last week, CDTA lost 6 buses because snow kept getting stuck in the tires causing the brakes to pull when applied with the minor snow storm they received. |
