Cleveland installed a similar exterior audio announcement system for turning buses on some of their NABIs (if not all of them; I'm heading back there in a couple weeks, so I'll have better info by then). |

I see two potential issues.First, increased noise pollution from exterior annunciators that may annoy neighboring residents. Second, installation of such a system may reduce the attentiveness and/or care of bus drivers who reason that, so long as there is an annunciator "warning" pedestrians, that the duty to avoid a collision is transferred from themselves to the pedestrians. This could lead to bus drivers just blindly turning, and exercising less care, resulting in an increased number of pedestrian injuries and fatalities. (A close analogy exists with marked pedestrian crosswalks. Studies show that pedestrians are less attentive when crossing in a marked pedestrian crosswalk, compared to unmarked pedestrian crosswalk, because many pedestrians have a false sense of security when using a marked crosswalk, and they exercise more care when using an unmarked crosswalk.) |

NJT has been using it for a few years and we'll be getting a similar system from the same company. NICE has the same system on their Orion 3Gs but it doesn't always work. Here's a video of the NJT announcement:https://youtube.com/watch?v=4yaZw-BgMis Also coming with this are interior automated stop announcements, about damn time. |

That's because NICE repairs NOTHING because they have an absence of spare parts. |

You'd think the parts for that equipment would be easy to get. The company that makes them (Clever Devices) is based and builds their products right in Nassau. |
