A woman bicycling through rush-hour East Side traffic in Manhattan Thursday was crushed by an MTA bus when she tried to swerve around a yellow cab, officials and witnesses said.Heather Wilhelm, 33, riding without a helmet, was riding up Madison Avenue around 10:30 a.m. when she tried to squeeze between the taxi, which was turning right on East 62nd Street and the M2 bus, witnesses and police said. “She was riding like a bike messenger,” said a source, “driving erratically … weaving in and out of traffic.” Wilhelm appeared to hit the rear of the cab and then fall under the bus’ rear wheels. She was taken to New York Presbyterian Hospital with a fractured skull and pelvis and listed in critical condition. “I saw her fly past us at the corner,” said witness Anthony Bischoff. “Moments later I saw cops and she was lying on the ground. I was in shock, all that blood coming from her head.” http://nypost.com/2014/07/24/woman-struck-by-bus/ |

Clearly it's motorists and not pedestrians or cyclists. Lets slow the city traffic down to 25MPH so they can be even more carefree, good job Deblazy |

The woman in the first accident was riding illegally without an approved helmet. Her injuries could have been less severe if she was riding with the helmet and obeying the law. |

Clearly it's bicyclists who don't know how to ride their bike. I don't think lowering the speed limit to 25mph will do anything, leave the speed limit the way it is. |
