Work began Monday night on a repaving project along the Palisades Interstate Parkway.

Winter was unkind to the Palisades Parkway and unkind to the cars that have to navigate its lunar landscape.

One lane will be closed during off-peak hours for mulling and paving work on the northbound lanes starting at the George Washington Bridge.

The $11 million project will resurface the road, which stretches 42 miles from the bridge in Fort Lee, N.J. to the Bear Mountain Bridge in New York, across the Hudson River between Rockland and Westchester counties.

The last time such work was done on the road was the mid-1990s.

The project, which will span several months, will also resurface three scenic overlooks and include repairs to 13 bridge decks as needed.

The Palisades Interstate Parkway was completed in 1958.

PAVING SCHEDULE:
July 21st, 830pm to 530am: Northbound right lane from George Washington Bridge upper level will be CLOSED until Interchange 1. Expect traffic pattern change on approach when merging into northbound lanes from Fort Lee Fletcher and Lemoine Avenue onramps.

July 22nd, 830pm to 530am: Northbond left lane from George Washington Bridge upper level will be CLOSED until Interchange 1. Expect temporary closure of Fort Lee Fletcher Avenue and Lemoine Avenue onramps.

July 23rd, 830pm to 530am: Northbound left lane from Interchange 1 to the area of Rockefeller Lookout CLOSED.

July 24th, 830pm to 530am: Northbound left lane from area of Rockefeller Lookout to Tenafly/Alpine border CLOSED.

July 25th, 830pm to 530am: Northbound left lane from Tenafly/Alpine border to Interchange 2 CLOSED.

Only the NJ portion of the highway is being repaved. NJDOT is overseeing the work, even though it's not their highway (the parkway s owned and run by the Palisades Interstate park Commission).

NJDOT press release - July 17 2014

(And WABC? It's "milling", not "mulling".)
