NJ Transit's CNG MCI pilot is finally here!!

Just saw a couple of pics of coach #7278 on another bus forum website. It's here at NJT grounds.
From the looks of it, MCI has what it appears new smaller LED headlights instead of the large and small combo and the rear end of the doors has more ventilation openings. Thank God that NJT elected to have the rear destination signs on them and they are to the left side than your normal right side. I and many others hoped for frameless windows, but to our dismay NJT elected not to go with it. Luggage racks looked different, the flooring looks to be blue than NJT's normal gray in order to blend with the leather blue seats. The rear wall appears not to have carpeting. It's white just like MTA's MCIs.
All in all I'm very happy that NJT's pilot is finally here. Soon the remaining 140+ would follow.

I called the headlight change a while back because NJT wants to standardize on parts. NABIs, DesignLines, and new MCIs can all use the same lights.

Disappointed that they went back to stainless steel siding - liked the all-white ECOCoaches.

They're going to get numbered backwards, it seems. The batch of 84 will apparently be 7278 through 7361, and the option order of 63 will most likely be 7215-7277 (since the DesignLines run though 7214).

All CNG MCIs will be assigned to Howell. The 137 would most likely get them because that's out of Howell. Not so the 319, which operates out of Meadowlands and Egg Harbor.

I would suspect that part of the reason the luggage racks look different is because that's where the tanks are stored on a typical MCI CNG cruiser.

Well, if NJT specifically requested them to standardize parts, those headlights aren't going anywhere (and will probably show up on future MCI orders as well).

Just like the sliding wheelchair access door showed up on future D-series orders not too long after NJT spec'd that piece of the order. Or the circular LED turn signals.

Hmmm, I've thought of this yesterday. Maybe those small circular LED headlights on the D-series will become standard. I mean MCI's popular remodeled J-series has them.

At least the front of the bus now matches the weirdness of the back of the bus. But I can't say that I find that front "attractive" (nor do I find the rear "attractive").

They're probably working on a small one that will fit above the fleet number. The small one on the DesignLines may be too big for the MCI (the D4500's curbside wiper mount looks like it would be partially in the way).

I'm sick of those state advertisements. I wish NJT were getting advertisements from the company that MTA uses. I think it's Viacom. More of Broadway shows, cinema, professional sports, sneaker and retailer adds please. Not to mention the usage of the space above the windows. I forgot the term they use to call it that particular area for ad space.

1. The front will most likely get the NJT logo in final production. The front end ads would cover it and the decals often get pulled off when they remove the ads but the ad money talks more.
2. The rear end leaves no room for ads at all.
3. Why revert to plastic upholstery? It reminds one of a suburban fishbowl. The fabric upholstery looked great and stood up well.

Re #3... the return to vinyl seats was two-fold: much easier maintenance (can be wiped instead of vacuumed), and the full fabric seats were prone to bedbug infestation from passengers.
