Keeping the DesignLines they have - interesting. EPV apparently assumed the remaining warranty coverage on those."As a consequence of these events, DesignLine did not deliver the remaining 63 CNG buses under contract with NJ TRANSIT and an action has been filed on behalf of NJ TRANSIT with the Bankruptcy Court where the matter is now pending." This part of the statement implies NJT still wants their $3.6M in late fees that DL noted as a BK debt back in August. In addition to likely using the new ZF axles/suspension that would cut the turning radius by 6 feet, I would venture a safe guess that NJT wants the small quad-headlight setup that the NABIs and DesignLines have and that MCI already uses on the J4500. If so, it would likely look similar to the Prevost X3-45's headlight arrangement. |

Well Howell has about 170 buses that need to be retired soon. So this order of 84 plus 63 and assuming they keep the 12 designlines would total 159 pretty close. |

I can see this order sending off all the buses at Howell to other depots excep (probably)t the MTA rejects since they're Howell oddballs. |

You guys have to remember that there is an order for Hybrids coming also. The way I figured it Howell should lose everything but the 7100s once the orders for CNGs and Hybrids come in.As far as the 9000s from what I hear for the Howell drivers, they would rather those go ASAP. |

Howell is considered a Southern Division garage and IIRC, the press release mentioned that the hybrids were gonna be for service from South Jersey to New York City. To me that means Howell and Egg Harbor with Egg Harbor getting restroom equip'd units. They are gonna have fun trying to fit all the crap people bring on the 319 in just the first baggage bay! |

When the USDOT/FTA grants were first announced, Howell was mentioned as getting all 197 alternative-fuel buses and all of their diesels would be retired or transferred along with the retirement of the older CNGs - the increased seat/standee count and improved range over the outgoing CNGs would make the 160 new CNGs more effective replacements for the diesels. The 197 45-foot units would also be enough in seat count to cover all normal schedules.NJT is certainly allowed to change their minds, but that was the stated original plan several years ago. |

Why don't they just forget about CNG ?They are restricted from parts of PABT and their tanks expire before the rest of the bus does. |

You know, I wondered why NJT doesn't allow cruise control on the howell coaches. I mean, it's not a real long distance as what Greyhound does but that's just me. I know when I did the 319 at times, especially those express to Atlantic City at times skipping Toms River (Sometimes we did that when we had 2 buses because of overcrowding and more Toms than AC), I'd like to have CC. Relax my foot a little. As for the light set up, all I wish to see is personally the old D4500 light set up, not that ugly diamond one. I don't like it personally. Rather have more light bulbs so people can see me. I drive the newer D4505's now for Greyhound and to me when I have to use high beams at night when it's dark, the brightness is not as good as a old D4500 or a 102DL3. Hell, the Prevost X3-45 lighting is better than the D4500. And I love MCI's. |
