The reduction in stops will help, but I'm skeptical that the MBTA will do anything more than that to improve schedule adherence and address bunching issues. |

The reduction in stops will help, but I'm skeptical that the MBTA will do anything more than that to improve schedule adherence and address bunching issues. At least for the 71, the improvements are mainly in passenger amenities. I haven't really looked at any of the others in detail. I had my own not-entirely-feasible idea... ![]()

Even if the road width were available, would it really be worth it to have a dedicated bus lane for a route that only runs every 9 minutes at best? The combined section with the 73 has buses about every 4 minutes, which is getting closer. But I still think a full-length exclusive bus lane only makes sense when there's 30+ buses per hour. |

Even if the road width were available, would it really be worth it to have a dedicated bus lane for a route that only runs every 9 minutes at best?It would only be island "platforms" at selected locations, not a full length dedicated bus lane, and Mount Auburn Street could probably benefit from increased service. But like I said, not entirely feasible. |

For whatever reason, there's a left-side stop on the 72. http://goo.gl/maps/QhgQ8I think the other two stops used to be on the left, but got moved to the right when the street was reconstructed, for whatever reason. |

For whatever reason, there's a left-side stop on the 72.Probably so it doesn't have to cross the bike lane and/or take out a block's worth of parking for pull-in & pull-out. I might revisit the concept at the Watertown Square terminal... |

The left-side stops on the Aberdeen Ave. end of route 72 date back to the original conversion from streetcars to trackless trolleys in the late 1930's. I believe this was the only rubber-tired route that had left-hand stops outside of a station or terminal. |
