Changes in Brooklyn bus service

With all the talk about what should be better bus service for brooklyn i figure i should add my two cents in. Here are some routes that should be reintroduced.

Reinstate B4 service at least for weekdays to Knapp Street. All other times the last stop should be Sheepsead bay Station. Drop off is at the B36 stop towards Ave U then the B4 dead heads to 17th St-left on 17th to Av Z left on Z first stop East 15th Street.

CHANGE B64 AND B82: How many riders ACTUALLY are using the B82 from Coney Island to Spring Creek? Id send All B82 to 25th Av-Harway and sent the B64 down Cropsey to Coney Island. During overnights when the b64 doesn't run, the B82 goes to Coney Island. Less delays on the B82 by shortening the run.

B49 CHANGES: With B44SBS running via Rogers Avenue, why should the B49 run there. Run the B49 up Ocean-right Empire-right Washington to Fulton Street. Returning franklin via Bedford but right at Empire to Ocean Avenue. A direct Ocean Avenue route.

REINSTATE X27 AND X28 SERVICE SATURDAYS: With construction on the "D" line southbound, customers have to take a "D" to Coney Island to ride North. With X28 service installed back, customers wont need to.
Regards to the X27: I'm guessing there WAS customers on this line on Saturday with headways to justify one hour headways(and construction on "R" service forces customers to use other choices)

Comments?

B1-#4844-New Flyer Excelsior
s53-#4897-New Flyer Excelsior

p.s. Saw Orion 3G #4608 on the S79 today.

Are these changes "revenue neutral"?

B49: The B 49 days are running if and when the B 44 SBS begins.... The B 49 is a route of need of modification and with the Franklin Shuttle shutting down in the near future again (for construction) it would make sense to combine the B 48/ B 49 during the same time the B 44 SBS is implemented.

Other considerations if the B 49 goes as you plan is to finally send the B 43 to KCH or Winthrop St (2/5)/ Parkside Av (Q) stations.

B 64/B 82: It is not who goes from Coney Island to Spring Creek, but (unfortunatly) who goes from Coney Island to Flatlands, yes Flatlands. The B 82 was the worse combo/budget cut plan route in my books. The route still follows the B 5/ B82 ridership patterns. I do agree you can get away with the B 82 terminating in Bensonhurst and rerouting the B 64 east of Bay pkwy to run via Crospey Av to CI, but is it cost worthy? No, but I still will like the B 64 return back to CI eventually.

B4:I never understood how this route would end at CI hospital where there is still a need for this route to Sheepshed Bay Station (and there is a lot of room for it to be a part time terminal). I would prefer at least MTA to extended it to the subway station in good faith.

x27/ x28: here is my problem with express buses in brooklyn... have potential if they can offer off peak fears that are at least 1/2 price. The BM1,2,3 as well as the x 27 could be justified for Saturday service and people would ride. It is sad that you can ride MetroNorth and LIRR within the city for $3.75 on weekends, while an express bus is $5.50? (Then again it is cheaper to ride an express bus peak direction (and off peak but it is only a couple of cents) than it is to use LIRR or MN!!)

Not the X27 and X28 change. I smell burning money.

The need to go to Sheepshead Bay Station on te B4 is from the other direction (Knapp St) not from Bay Ridge.

The problem with revenue neutral is that as soon as you show the MTA a way they can reduce service, they grab the idea without reinvesting into the system so the next time you want to come up with a revenue neutral plan it becomes harder because you are now working from a lower baseline.

Agree, but just looking at the current setup, during off peak hours, it would make sense to get back to the station and work its way back to Knapp St.

*B4 and B 8 cuts were head scratchers for the record.

As much as you guys here complain of my ideas, wasn't there political pressure to reinstate the M50 on weekends and the Co-Op city bus changes(BX24).If customers can complain there, B4 and B64 service COULD be reinstated(but then you have people in Staten Island would complain that if you reinstate B4 and B64 then reinstate S76 and S54 weekend service).

The Bx24 served Country Club, not Co-Op City. None of the cuts were reversed in Co-Op City.

This was brought up when the MTA Doomsday cuts were being situated and I forgot who said it best but if you have a strong political leader representing your neighborhood, the chances of a route reinstated or comeback in some form are high... i.e. Q14 (now known as the Q 15A) and x 27/ x28 A,B,C which eventually brought back the x 37/x 38.
