Bus service to Javits Center

Last week I went to Javits one day for the car show. While I am able to walk to and from Penn (I am a LI resident) I noticed a lack of NYC Transit bus service there. The covered busway is no longer used, and the M34 stops across the street. The M42 does not even serve Javits any more. While the #7 train is on the way, more bus service is also needed.

Proposed solution - extend the M104 to end at Javits. Would provide a direct route from the tourist hotels in the Times Square area and from the Upper West Side. Suggested routing - stay on 7th Ave. SB to 34th, turn west, and end at 11th Ave. Turn around with the M34 and begin on the EB side of 34th Street. Continue to 8th Ave. and turn north resuming regular route at 41st St. Minor problem at the last/first stop - confusion because of the M34 requiring Select Bus prepay tickets.

Using the internal roadway was useless because the Javits Center's management would always evict the MTA during special events to make room for fee-paying charter buses. (In other words, public buses were allowed in only when they weren't needed!)

Presumably to serve people currently going to/from Javits. I think he made that clear.

Exactly..

Nope.

It's not being "extended to Javits." You might find the 7 Subway Extension — Hudson Yards Rezoning and Development Program website quite enlightening.

I took the M34 the other week to get to the Javits Center. There was a Bolt bus in the MTA stop which had to wait behind it. It took me about 30 seconds to find the machine which was not obvious because it was located about 40 feet from where the bus stopped. By the time I got my receipt, the bus had pulled out so I prceeded to walk.

Another bus came when I got to 10th Avenue so I got on for one block. The driver was speaking to some passengers explaining how the SBS system worked and that he was an extra. When I got off the bus, I noticed it was a regular MTA bus without the SBS paint scheme. It only said SBS on the digital sign and I thought how easy it is for someone to board the bus without realizing they had to prepay and how unfair a summons would be in such an instance.

Also, there were three trucks and that Bolt Bus in the Exclusive lane rendering it useless. Also, after only a few months, the pavement was already falling apart. In a few months, the lane won't even be visible. Do you think DOT will actually maintain the markings?

On the way back, I took the M42 which I didn't have to wait for. In the PM rush hour it only took 12 minutes to get to Sixth Avenue. So now I'm wondering if the 34th Street SBS is working at all.

Unless you take a cost-neutral, ridership-neutral approach, and find offsetting savings elsewhere, Operations Planning will laugh at your idea, and toss it into the garbage.

It's pretty obvious where the machines are...

Huh????????????? If a person thinks it is a regular non-SBS bus/route, they will board at the front and try to pay. The driver will then tell them that this is SBS and they need to get back off and get a receipt. So why would such a person get a summons?

On the way back, I took the M42 which I didn't have to wait for. In the PM rush hour it only took 12 minutes to get to Sixth Avenue. So now I'm wondering if the 34th Street SBS is working at all.

LOL! So you rode it once, for only one block, and you're already questioning if it is working at all????? You can't be serious.
