I think the MTA should split the Q38 into two routes sending the Eliot Avenue Branch to the Ridgewood Terminal via Eliot Avenue, Metropolitan Avenue, Forest Avenue & Gates Avenue. The other (Rego Park) branch should be split at Queens Blvd. and the south west section (that is south of Queens Blvd.) should be combined with the Q72 route and than have the Q72 terminate at Fresh Pond Road/Metropolitan Avenue. The north end of the Q38 Rego Park Branch along 62nd Drive(westbound)and 63rd Road(eastbound)should be merged into the Q59 route which would then have the Q59 terminate at 110th Street/62nd Drive. The MTA should also reroute the B13 to the Ridgewood Terminal/Wyckoff Hospital from Cooper Avenue/62nd Street via new routing along Cooper Avenue, Cypress Avenue and Myrtle Avenue.

The rerouting of the B13 over to Cypress Avenue would reduce costs to pay for the Q38 route extension to the Ridgewood Terminal. The other extensions to the Q72 and Q59 would be paid for by the elimination of the Q38 service along those same areas.

Since NYCT has no jurisdiction over the Q38 (MTA bus does) and you can identify a cost savings, why not write a snail mail letter of your complete proposal signed with your name and address to MTA hq @ 347 Madison?

So, you basicly want to turn the 38 into a copy of the 58 and turn the 72 into rougly a mirror of the 47...

One bus terminating at Fresh Pond and metro is enough with the hell hole it can turn into during the rush hours. You can stand on that corner and just see nothing but cars going nowhere in all directions.

I would be much more in favor of getting the 67 away from there.

This post basically reiterates what I sent in an e-mail to Paul Gawkowski when he was NYCT's Brooklyn/Queens/Staten Island Service Planner over ten years ago, i.e., before he retired:

B13 - Reroute via Cypress Ave.
B52 - Extend via Gates Ave and the current B13 to the Fresh Pond Depot.
Q38 - This would be the Eliot Ave portion of the current route, but would operate via Forest Av to Cooper Av & 60 Lane.
Q39 - Reroute via Fresh Pond Rd, and extend via the current B13 routing to Cypress Hills Station.
Q59 - Operate via 63 Rd/62 Dr to 110 St.
Q72 - Extend via the 63 Dr/Juniper Valley Rd portion of the current Q38 to Fresh Pond Rd & Metropolitan Av.

They should really renumber the Q38 to something else, as it is confusing to have two 38s that close to one another (three in a way, seeing as the B38 branches).

What do you think about having the Q39 travel a little further south to the Aqueduct Casino via Jamaica Avenue, Grant Avenue(S/B),Ridgewood Avenue(S/B), Eldert Lane (N/B) and than Rockaway Blvd. to 108th Street and into Aqueduct Casino.

No, for many reasons:

1. The line is long enough as it is, especially when you consider the streets it travels on, especially Metropolitan and Forest. Metropolitan is never not a nightmare in Ridgewood, and Forest between Metropolitan and Myrtle is barely wide enough for one bus to run on.

2. Most rush hour buses are crush loaded as it is, so extending the route to another trip generator would be burdensome.

3. Many of the route's users would object to the so-called "unsavory types" who frequent casinos.

Well I think another post mentioned the Q39 should be rerouted over to Fresh Pond Road from Forset Avenue which would save time and costs to extend it further south. Most "unsavory types" can take any bus they wish to get to the casino. Right now the Q37 route will directly serve the Aqueduct Casino and a few other nearby routes such as the Q41, Q7 and Q11 will be serving the casino as well and no one from those nearby Queens communities are complaining about it. Long Island City, Maspeth & Ridgewood riders would benefit with a one seat ride via direct bus to the Aqueduct Casino otherwise these passengers from these Queens neighborhoods would need to take three to four buses or three to four subway lines and possibly a bus unless they drive.

That can also be solved by finally making the Q7 a true Rockaway Blvd route by rerouting it to Crescent St J though. I really wonder how Sutter Avenue managed to keep the route there all of these years.

I don't mind the Q38 been changed as it is a sloppy route. Some people here forget about the "Barrier" which is the reason FP Road and Metro Ave suck so bad for traffic. The barrier pretty much forces you use those streets in order for people to travel between Ridgewood and Maspeth/Middle Village. It consists of Metro Mall, Fresh Pond Depot, Fresh Pond Yard, Christ the King HS, and Lutheran Cemetery. The only the that can travel through it is the (M) train. Metro Ave, Fresh Pond Rd, Cypress Hills st, Central Ave, and 73rd Place is the perimeter of it.

IMO, instead of extending a part of it, one portion should just be eliminated entirely. However it should still serve Queens Center Mall.
