What helps personal vehicles move around quicker helps buses move quicker too. The last major highway improvement out here was the bus lane on the Staten Island Expressway, and part of the current improvements is extending that lane the length of the highway.

But, there are more people going to the SI Mall than New Dorp.

All I ask is to try it before eliminating service. It would give New Springville a direct link to Seaview Hospital, though, I admit, these riders are few and far between.

The Bx50 would be not LGA-Fordham, but Flushing-Fordham.

The now-discontinued Q75 via Cloverdale Blvd to Queensborough CC.

Actually, you do see a decent number of people waiting for (I assume) the S40 at South Avenue/Brabant Street. Anybody who has any experience riding the S46 regularly knows that it is slow because of all the turns in makes, and crowded because of all of the high school students using it.

Those don't affect Staten Island, though (except for the X22 Super Express, which could still be done in a cost-neutral way).

I think that most of the buses that serve the Park-and-Ride in the morning should just make their next stop Arthur Kill Road, and then Victory Blvd. Between riders in Tottenville, Pleasant Plains, Arden Heights, and Travis, those buses should almost be full.

I always see at least 2-4 people waiting at the Brabant Street stop. The same for the Forest Avenue stop.

I know why the S46 is slow. It has turns on narrow streets in the area from Mariners' Harbor to Port Richmond. Plus, between the traffic lights and high-use stops on Castleton Avenue, it goes slow in West Brighton as well.

All of the NYC bus maps are fairly accurate. The same goes for the Staten Island bus map except for the Saint George Terminal inset.

Depending what part of the North Shore you are in the bus routes are close. Between Arlington and West Brighton the S40 and S46 are within walking distance but east of Broadway, Richmond Terrace and Castleton Avenue start spreading apart.

I've seen that happen as well. In the AM, the S89 often comes late going southbound, whereas in the PM, it often comes early. I guess the drivers figure that nobody really "depends" on the S89 (since the S44 and S59 also serve the area), so it doesn't matter what time they come.

Right now the route needs to be shortened so weekend service could be reinstated north of Seaview Hospital for the meantime. For what it's worth that's the only cost-neutral way that Manor Road could at least have some sort of service than no service on weekends, because there are poor alternatives for the S54 on weekends (no other buses operate along Manor Road; no other buses operate along Giffords Lane). At least by shortening the route off-peak, the alternatives south of Seaview Hospital are fairly adequate. The only streets that would not have service is Giffords Lane and Nelson Avenue but it's been stressed enough that an S79A Giffords Lane branch could fill in that void, again being a cost-neutral alternative.

It's not that simple as it is to type it on a computer screen. There has to be adequate demand to reroute or extend the bus route. You cannot just twist around the service in hopes of getting people to ride it, because what if they don't ride it? Then that's money thrown away.

Exactly. The problem is that the S54 runs close to more frequent routes that serve the SI Mall: On the North Shore, it runs near the S44, and it also runs near the S61. Even with a transfer, it will still (generally) be faster to use those other routes.

So it should be cut back to Seaview Hospital, it's original terminus as the 110. It was extended to replace the 4 when they changed the routing. But few people ride it along Giffords and Nelson. The wait between buses is such that walking is generally faster from the train station.

Ok, go back to pretending to be somebody, drawing pretend lines on a map; you've made it clear you lack the intelligence to make anything more of your life than to live and play in your little fantasy land. Like the child you are. Your parents must be so proud of a kid with no goals in life other than to ride every bus line end to end.
