I'm not getting into a pissing contest with you. If I didn't apologize in the past for what you call "errors in reasoning" it is because I didn't agree that they were errors.

Now I remember the reason I stopped talking to you in the first place. I said I wasn't going to waste my time any more. We were having some type of discussion and you were the one who was going round in circles with his logic. We were getting nowhere. Now you are accusing me of what you were guilty of.

Why is it that you can't seem to get along with so many on this board and I don't have any problems? Think about that.

I just wish to give the S54 and S55/56 a chance to increase ridership and revenue, like they would in Boston, Philadelphia, and Toronto.

I would only agree to elimination once this fails.

Not every route is going to be an all-star. I am comfortable leaving it as is until a workable configuration can be found. Strong bus routes are often fed by weak ones.

Ridership on the Staten Island bus routes have increased since the 1990s. The S79 is a prime example; frequency outside of rush hours was every half hour; now service outside of rush hours is every ten minutes and is the second heaviest-used bus route in Staten Island.

Thing is, with the S55 and S56, they are glorified versions of school buses, as someone on here said. They run every 30 minutes and that does not include the school runs when school is in session, but they are the lowest-used bus routes that have not been discontinued in 2010. Bus routes get altered, frequencies get increased and bus types even change to respond to demand in the community for the service. The S44's old routing was between Saint George and Port Richmond but was rerouted to the Staten Island Mall; the S79 was rerouted to Brooklyn, and the S59 served Tottenville during the daytime (although Tottenville S59 service has significantly been reduced since the 1990s to run along Hylan Boulevard during rush hours, it still provides help to the S78 in the sectors between Eltingville and Tottenville. If the S56 didn't run the way it did, which is garbage, the route could be improved by extending it to Charleston along a corridor that never had access to public transportation before. Bloomingdale Road didn't have public transportation until the S55 was extended.

There is room for improvement with the Staten Island bus network but the MTA is not doing anything to make it better other than just waste money on implementing +Select Bus Service on the S79 which really does not need it.

Bloomingdale Rd did have service before the 55 was extended; it's served by the 74, and has been for a few years longer than the 55.

But that was only between Arthur Kill Road and Rossville Avenue...the S55 serves all of Bloomingdale and the southern end of the street is Amboy Road.

Allan was one of the few managers (you were, weren't you?) at NYCT that had common sense. But he has since retired--got out while the getting was good--in order to openly criticize the MTA and its subsidiaries of their myopic mistakes.

I'm not making any comments about managers with common sense. And I didn't get out to "openly criticize" the MTA. I retired because I wasn't allowed to work in the area where my expertise is the greatest for 22 of the 25 years I was there. It is difficult trying to criticize the MTA while you are working there and it is also a violation of MTA ethics if you do.

I know that you didn't retire in order to criticize the MTA. You wanted to make a difference, restructure bus service for the greater good based on your Master's Thesis.

Retiring, however, allows you to speak your mind, and openly critique the MTA and their subsidiaries for their mistakes and missed opportunities to increase ridership and revenue.

But the Guide-a-Ride Maps ahow that Limiteds make all stops south of Sheepshead Bay. I really don't think it is necessary for them to put up Limited signs south od Sheepshead Bay since they are locals at that point. Those signs are for boarding passengers not for passengers getting off. If you want to criticize, then criticize DOT for posting the B4 sign and map at the Sheepshead Bay stop although the B49 stops there, not the B4. And that isn't the only stop with outdated signs at bus shelters.

I'd rather criticize them for installing bus stop shelters three blocks from the last outbound stop in the outbound direction.

The company, CEMUSA, I believe does not decide where to put the shelters. I believe the Community Boards recommend locations, and if there is enough room at that location, the shelter gets erected. Unfortunately, many people on those boards are not familiar enough with the bus routes to know where they should go.

I agree.

They won't put one in a quarter-mile from the terminus in the outbound direction, but in many cases it makes no sense to put one in even a half-mile away unless the terminus is a at a major transfer point.

I also will criticize them for tearing down perfectly good shelters to put in the new ones when there are still so many locations without shelters that can use one and have the space to accommodate one.

I also don't understand why they couldn't install triple or quadruple shelters at Kings Plaza. Singles or doubles are just inadequate for the crowds there.

There are several shelters on Staten Island that leave me wondering why they were installed. Like the one on Forest Ave, adjacent to Home Depot. The only route it serves is the s40, which ends just past this stop where it loops around the Goethals Bridge ramp.

Just like guide-a-rides behind the mall that had schedules installed for the 55/56...heading TO the mall!

They may have the space to accommodate a shelter, but there are often issues with property, as well.

There is also a law, it certainly affects Staten Island, but it may affect the rest of the city as well, where parkland cannot be taken without the replacement of equivalent parkland.
