Fron Allan Rosen aka BrooklynBus, of the blog Sheepsheadbites.com:

"...with the elimination of many bus routes last year,...direct connections between neighborhoods have been severed, increasing the number of buses required for some trips from two to three and hence, an extra fare. Those additional fares have also...encouraged more trips to be made by subway or car service or not at all, affecting buses greater than subways.

"While obvious to users of the system, these reasons remain a mystery to managers making $100,000-plus at the MTA...."

Allan was one of the few managers (you were, weren't you?) at NYCT that had common sense. But he has since retired--got out while the getting was good--in order to openly criticize the MTA and its subsidiaries of their myopic mistakes.
