Hot News: Coach USA pulling MCI J4500 Coaches from Community Coach & Suburban |

Posted by rionOne on Wed Sep 1 08:24:46 2010 By the end of this weekend, all MCI J4500 coaches operated by Coach USA/Community Coach and Coach USA/Suburban.Reason? Megabus is expanding service to Richmond, VA and Chicago, IL from the Northeast Regional System. This will now make the Megabus network seamless. Pulling and using the MCI J4500s is the easiest thing for Coach USA to do rather than waiting on a new bus order to arrive. So the buses will be re-assigned from the Paramus and New Brunswick Garages and moved to the Elizabeth Garage and wrapped for Megabus service. -Trevor www.ttmg.org |

Megabus to Richmond: If it's express from NYC-Richmond, it'd work if it was a Chinabus killer. If it was a tag-on to some NYC-DC runs and allowed local traffic between DC and Richmond, it'd work even better because they could sell a good chunk of the bus twice with all the DC-Richmond traffic out there.Megabus to Chicago: This would be a cruel marathon of a run if it went from NYC nonstop. It might be time to try to extend a Chicago route to Pittsburgh and sync the schedules so transfers could be made there. When Megabus was first in Pittsburgh when the Toledo-Cleveland route went on to Pittsburgh, there was speculation of this happening. |

I think don't think its going to be a Chicago direct. I drove a charter to and from Jersey to Chicago and that is a 16 hour stint. So, my thought is that MegaBus will probably add stops on it, allowing for operator changes as well.-Trevor |

Best idea would be to tag on a run of the Midwest District's Toledo/Cleveland route and extend it back into Pittsburgh. Adds service to that route and allows for a crew change in Pittsburgh. |

There's a good market between Cleveland and Pittsburgh as evidenced by the Greyhound bus I rode between the two cities last time I was there.I was a tad surprised to see this bus at first before I realized it was coming from a "different division":  Hold on a second....this bus used to go to Pittsburgh?! Adam,You are correct. Academy is starting to over power Jersey's charter market and is making moves to take over the rest of the tri-state area INCLUDING New England. Academy has also made it known that they want to by out Golden Touch, Trans-Bridge and a few other properties. Academy has also under bidded NYAS for the Airport contract, so it looks like Jack may loose that service. Now back to Coach USA, they will retain any MCI D-Series Coaches left (18 @ Community Coach and I'm sure about the total at Suburban). Also Short Line has a surplus of equipment for charters as well. Also we are now in the low point of the Charter season so charter work isn't calling for mass bus requirements. Coach USA's focus is pointing away from the Charter market and more onto the Line Haul and Contract market. -Trevor |

You can tell by the fleet numbers, the Coach USA units start with an "S" while the Dattco units start with a 7. Also the Dattco units have the Dattco logo on the Megabus wrap where the Coach USA logo would normally be.-Trevor |

Yes indeed. Since they ordered the massive amount of double deckers for the Northeast, Megabus rarely if ever runs MCIs in this area. I believe they are actually based out of the ABC lot out in Camden, NJ (off of NJ rt 38 if I'm not mistaken). |

Not one other person has accused Trevor of lying or pointing out that his info was a tad off.
