How much would it cost to get the tanks replaced on the C40LFs? I think that these buses might be in the best shape - unless NYCT just wants to get rid of NFI buses. I think that yes the O5CNGs need to be replaced - the NYCT ones cause of age and the MTA Bus ones cause of where some of them came from (Triboro) where they may not have had the best maintenance - and possibly the whole low floor initiative. |

I thought Triboro took pretty decent care (to their standards) of their 05CNG's when they had them.As for the RTS CNG's..........that was a whole 'nother matter! When MTA took over, they never turned a wheel in service, as while they were re-numbered, they were immediately retired. |

I was actually refering to the RTS CNG's that MTA Bus inherited from TCC being retired because they did not take care of them at all. I didn't know at least one was transfered.MTA Bus, from what I observed, never ran one of these out of LGA once they took over. I was aware other depots ran them, like Spring Creek, who actually did maintance on them! I am equally suprised that former LGA RTS CNG's did run on Spring Creek routes for a time, but I'd wager a very short time. I'd bet 7164 was one of the few that survived LGA. |

Oh man, most of them were transferred to Spring Creek and they actually ran longer than the Command ones. True, they never ran out of LGA and that was due to the fact that MTA Bus set forth the move to shut down CNG operations out of LGA. So the first buses moved were the CNG RTS to Spring Creek, then soon followed the Orion 5s to College Point and Spring Creek which in turn displaced TMC RTS Diesels to LGA and other depots. We got almost a good year out of the ex-Triboro CNG RTSs before they were retired. All of them were given a good fixing up mechanically before being sent to Spring Creek and they ran rather well there. They were actually retired right at the 12 year Tank life mark at the end of 2006. John Simpson Photo Ozzy Zamora Photo Ozzy Zamora Photo -Trevor |
