Looks like the Tedesco Family is once again in buy and integrate mode her in New York as they announced this morning on their Twitter page that they are now the carrier for Premier Coach, most known for their school contract work in Manhattan and being a sub-contractor for IKEA is Red Hook (meaning they bought them out) - a few weeks ago they purchased and re branded the operations of Campus Coach, known for their specialties in small group charters.

I wonder who's next on Academy's hit list.

I think its more of trying to piece together and shore up charter operations that compliment segments that they do not serve on a fixed-contract or network basis (i.e. independent local charters and school contracts) than it is about buying up everybody - notice how they haven't gotten rid of the brands of these companies, they've just refined them and placed Academy Express's DOT number on them...

Interesting...I wonder if Academy will consider using the Premier yard in the South Bronx for midday layovers to save money on tolls.

I would expect the Campus and Premier brands to disappear soon though, as the Academy brand name is that powerful in the Northeast.

I wonder if Academy though may consider buying up outfits in Connecticut and near Boston (as well as maybe one near Maryland), since they apparently do charter work throughout the BoWash megalopolis.

Academy should buy PABCO, They get another NJT contract (MCM), 13 state buses (although one was taken from them by NJT), plus a base for any charters they might get in that area. I've seen MCI 1861 in Morristown and a pair of Setras at the Rockaway Mall.

I have a suspicion that things are not as they seem. That is all I'm going to say publicly. This explains the ABC sightings.

This is a very interesting development, though. It frees me to chase their school work aggressively.

At least the Tedesco family knows how to run a first rate operation and from my impression of Academy Bus Lines, that is exactly what they have. No pieces of junk in their fleet like other bus lines I have seen.

I hope not in the case of Campus Coach. That grey and green livery has been a staple for 50 years.

Their story in terms of that is well known - Mark and Francis grew up as mechanics in their father's company, then when he died Francis took over the operations and Mark took over purchasing and equipment. Mark is well known for buying second hand equipment that is 5-6 years old (MCI DL3's, J4500s, and Nova's) and rehabbing everything in Secaucus, NJ.

In most cases - it depends on which operation: 22 Hillside's union gets OK pay and so do the drivers out of the Pomona Terminal because they organized back in 2002 - everyone else though does get the short end of things, particularly the drivers who get the AC jobs...
