Posted by Busrider on Thu Jul 2 21:39:59 2009 Does anyone know what the routes were back in the early days of CDTA when it was first created? |

Go to: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CDTA and scroll down to Section 2 on that page which is "Fixed route services." Apparently most of the routes existed long before CDTA itself took them over. The routes themselves do not seem to have changed much, but I'm only going based on what I see on this webpage. |

The internet is telling me the same thing the general answer what companies CDTA took over. I tried CDTA myself but they don't keep any documents. I looked at old schedules in the library that kinda helped. Wikepedia is messed up the information on there is false to an extent. |

Can't help you then; quite honestly the general impression I get is that the routes of today seem to be more or less identical to what they were in the past. The most interesting thing about their history is probably when each route was born, so to speak. |

For instance route T was United Traction Company's Glass Lake Route it run from Downtown Troy to Spring Ave to Griswald Heights through Albia to Glass Lake. In 1972 a year after CDTA was created the route was eliminated the newspaper said because the area is already served in Albia by the current 80 route. But then I thought the current 89 ran spring ave to Griswald Heights did they create the 89 as a partial come back of the Glass Lake or was it always the 89 but eliminated and brought back years later being cut back to Griswald Heights. |

Believe it or not it can be just as difficult in some cases to track down the history of bus routes in more well-known systems, such as that of New York City.Your best bet, if the libraries are not helping, is the memories of actual people who may have used the buses back then. Track down some elders / senior citizens whose memories can be decently trusted and who used the buses a lot during the time period you are interested in. If your interest is really deep you may want to put an ad out in some magazine or newspaper for such people, and perhaps if you think it is worth it and you have the money, offer a reward for anyone who assists you, like a $5 or $10 thank-you check. I'm not saying this is going to work; I'm just making suggestions. |
