Think about all the previous financial crises they survived. Admittedly some were still in service in the mid-to-late 70s, but others, including #100, were already OOS by then, and they lived.Relax, for now. |

There are costs involved with keeping them running and don't forget insurance and parts, detailing . Even tires must be changed do to age not miles. We will see if they are back this holiday season on the streets. Other TA's have scrapped vintage buses. |

And not scrapping the vintage bus fleet makes a lot of sense. Believe me, if NYCT even hinted at anything like scrapping the vintage bus fleet, many, many, many, people would show up with suitcases full of money willing to pay beyond market value for those gems. |

Last year's Long Island Bus Roadeo was the last one. Long Island Bus was to be included in this years New York City Bus Roadeo before it was cancelled. My understanding was that Suffolk County Transit was also to partake in it as well but that's not going to happen either. |

I wasn't going to attend it this year anyways. I know there are vintage buses there and all but there's nothing there that I never saw before. Hopefully, they will still have the Bus Festival at the Atlantic Ave Antic in the early Fall. And I believe all of the Bus Roadeos across the country are getting cancelled this year as well. |

AFAIAC those buses belong in a museum that is open to the public. Bringing them out once or twice a year just doesn't cut it. The MTA should sell or donate them to transportation museums around the country that actually open their collections to the public. |

Name an aspect of the local bus experience, and I don't like it (the other pax, the stops and starts, the fact that I can walk faster, etc, etc, etc). But I can still remember being 3 feet tall and the streets were full of green and blue Fishbowls and Flxs. Since my dad worked long hours and my mom didn't drive, I was on them a lot. Those vintage buses sure bring back lotsa memories for me. The worst that will happen is that they get little to no TLC for the next few years, but considering how long they have survived, I'm not worried (at this point) about them being scrapped. |
