It is in Flatbush territory. How do you know it was simply running without passengers on FLAT routes to check clearances? Maybe it went back home afterwards. You didn't see it in the depot or actual service. How can it be assigned to FLAT if there aren't any lifts to accomodate itin the depot itself? This is the equivalent of people saying R160's are running on the F when they are doing test runs only so they are not really running on the F since no passengers are aboard. Sorry to be so technical! |

ENY is not that bad, actually. 8695 is 15 years old. You aren't going to run all that well at 75 years old, but it isn't necessarily an example of bad maintenance. You might have had a very stressful work schedule.SI has very few 12+ year old buses. They used to have more in the past. They have 8 and 9 year old buses that have been acting up since they were 6 years old. The few older buses they received were in better shape than the buses they had. If you look at 8415, the bus is physically in great shape, but the engine is shot. Most of the 8000-8300s have shot engines and now the repowered 8400-8500s have the same issue. These buses are so slow that they would barely hit 55MPH if they were dropped off the Empire State Building. However, that isn't bad maintenance...it's age. SI was getting better (according to SIR), but it is apparent that they are starting to relapse. The express bus customers are talking about constant HVAC problems on their buses (as in, no heat on buses) and buses going missing. If that is happening on the expresses, then you should have an idea on what is happening on the locals. I am sure that many buses will be getting scrapped this summer. |
