That will not work here. I'll try and catch it and see its ride quality. As far as looks, although I like the notions of a rear window and digital run box, I don't really like the way it looks. It's eerily similar to that fugly NABI that NJT has. I wish the MTA and New Flyer would make amends. |

A digital dash sign, I think that's a first on any bus under the MTA logo. The unusual front door reminds me of those old Carpenter school buses. The narrow door panel would swing inwards while the wider one would swing out. Three doors on the side. That would be useful for +SBS routes.I think this could be the start of a new generation of artics in NYC. |

Glad you like the shots.I appreciate the fact the bus has a rear winsow, something the "whitebook" specs did away with long ago and basically stayed that hway long after whitebook was scrapped. A/C units had been plopped atop bus roofs but buses still had no rear windows. It was interesting while riding the vintage buses this year. On Flx 7340, some little kids got on and, running to the back of the bus, one little boy shouted "a back window". They then knelt on the rear seat and looked out the rear window. Brought back memories! I personally think the NF artics the city has should have been built with 3 sets of doors or better yet, a front door and the second door in the first section; most people prefer to walk from the back all the way to the front to exit. They'll use the rear to sneak on however. This Nova has some interesting features. Hope to see in on Bx12 Select or the Bx 1 or 2. jrc |

They are just trying out different specs and layouts. The deal has been "done", once all of t he tryouts have been worked out, then they will be rolling onto NYC streets in 2010 [and say goodbye to some of the Flyers!]. |

So you're say that he thinks that a lower seating capacity means it won't work? Let me get this straight: there have been tons of posts here lately about how the Orion VII NG hybrids have less seats/room than the Orion VII buses, and that the Orion VII buses have less seats/room than the standard floor buses. But both of those models WERE still purchased, and ARE running today, and seem to be the love of many people here. So it seems counter-intuitive that a lower seating capacity bus "can't work" here when NYCT keeps putting "smaller" buses into service. And that's ignoring all of the benefits of a third door! |

The only other think I can think of (and he may have a point there) is that fare evasion will be greater on a 3 door artic than a two door artic. Spend 2 minutes on a San Francisco MUNI artic and you know what I am talking about. Still, the advantages of a 3 door time (less dwell time and faster running times) outweigh the disadvantages (longer dwell and running time, and less fare evasion) IMHO. |

Dunno, I don't see how a third door will mean greater fare evasion. I don't think anyone who wouldn't already evade the fare would be tempted to do it, since they'd know that it's obvious that the driver can still see what's going on at the extra door. And those that do farebeat today will be kept in check at the same rates as today by the drivers and/or the police doing whatever it is they do today to combat fare beating. So I don't see a problem.Yes, I agree, the benefits of a third door far outweigh any problems. |

Not a huge problem if they use the buses on SBS routes which are POP in the first place. And as Terrapin said, current fare evasion deterrence techniques should be just as appropriate on a 3 door bus as they are on the models currently in service. |
