I just cam back from the Bus fest on Atlantic Avenue. Nice buses but dissapointed that the Orion VII NG bus was nowhere to be seen.
Did see and got on the doubledecker bus. Very nice bus but not good for someone of my height(i'm 6'2) and would have a problem for local routes. Keep this on the express lines and it will be perfect.
I did notice on State Street Grumman 870 #2089 from Broadway. All in red and white with Quality Control Stickers on it. I think this used to be a ex New York Ciy bus but i don't understand why it wasn't with the rest of the buses.
Finally, Fishbowl #5227 was there. Scratches on the back window. Since this bus is the last one in service from MTA that was non-wheelchair accessible you assume MTA would have put in new windows.
Here is what was there:
GMC #2151
New York Bus Service #1502
Liberty Lines #3100(MCI)
Triboro Coach Corp #623
GMC #8466
Able Ride #2030(from LI Bus)

Nice collection.

I saw that flexble bus with the red paint scheme, i think the reason why it wasn't with the other Museum buses is because that bus not apart of the museum fleet and is probaly owned by someone else. I wonder why 10001,1201 and 4904 weren't there hmmm....

Yeah a shame those weren't there. At least the TBC fishbowl and 5227 were both there. The Vanhool bus was great.

Yes, finally 5227 was there, does that bus ever show up for these bus fests or is this the 1st time for it? Also it runs on its own power right?

Transit Transit news was doing a report from the Transit Museum this afternoon. I'm sure they filmed the buses too.

Grummans are not welcomed in the festivals or roadeos anymore. Don't intend on seeing 236 either. Word on the street is that as long as Mr. Roberts is the NYCT's president, it will not been seen.

So it was requested that the bus be placed at bay away from the exact festival.

Thats all, good night!

What is Mr. Roberts' beef with Grumman? Sounds kind of petty.

Hopefully Paterson can slice his job away.

Not really. The buses had their problems, initially -- but NYCTA grossly overreacted by grounding the entire fleet and selling it off to other agencies. You'll recall that a number of buses ended up at New Jersey Transit, which continued to operate them until 2000.

I don't think that Roberts' taking a negative opinion on the museum Grumman buses is grounds for punishment. It's silly, yes, but it doesn't warrant a firing or anything of that nature. Especially when the authority has much larger problems to worry about.

Denying history and miscues is a bad thing. I have no respect for people who do that and Roberts should be forced to backtrack. Can the MTA hire someone more respectful of their own history?

I think a letter writing to 347 Jay Street is in order. I still have no respect for the man and will not help him in any way.

If WMATA can exhibit one of their RTS's, which infamously killed a little girl on board, than this Grumman thing is sour grapes.

Speaking of RTS's 1201,10001 and 4904 weren't at the Roadeo or the BF. I wonder whats the story behind that....

Well, you know people have thier preferences and they are apt to an opinion.

I will say this about Roberts, since he has been on board, we have been doing some things I love. The fact that we are demoing and trying out stuff at an alarming rate is wonderful. We didn't have this under the Rueter party.

Yes Denying the Grumman as our history is well...Fucked up...and As big as a Grumman/Flxible fan as I am, I will say that some of the other good stuff that Roberts is doing overshawdows this one downfall.

Well, it's too bad Roberts doesn't want to exhibit the Grumman, but that in and of itself is not a measure of his ability to run the TA. The measure of that will be how things work out service-wise with the current budget problems.

I remember all the back-and-forth about those buses- they were in service, out of service, in service again, and finally, in 1984, REALLY out of service. Whether or not that was really necessary, I suppose there are valid opinions either way.

But the Grummans' very premature retirement DID give a lot of Fishbowls several more years on the road...

Yes, kind of a skimpy lineup compared to the Roadeo. Too many service vehicles, and WHY would LI BUS send what is essentially an Access-a-Ride? At least my favorite, 5227 was there. Previous Busfests saw GBL and JC RTS's in their original liveries.

It was only through dumb luck that I discovered the Grummann on State: while making a quick snack run up to Court Street. I have no patience, appetite or budget for street fair food.
