Posted by W.B. on Tue Sep 1 10:17:06 2026 August 30, 1943 - The Book of Route Resumptions The Bronx, New York Surface Transportation Corporation of New York Per a Public Service Commission order dated August 24, service is restored on the Bx-5 - Eastern (later Bruckner) Boulevard line. It had been suspended on orders from the U.S. Office of Defense Transportation (ODT) since the spring. (Source: "Buses Will Resume in Throgs Neck Area." The New York Times, August 25, 1943.) - - - August 31, 1969 - The Book of Operational Changes New York City, New York New York City Transit Authority Manhattan and Bronx Surface Transit Operating Authority Effective as of this date, exact fare is required on buses, the result of many publicized robberies of bus drivers in other cities. August 31, 2014 - The Book of First Runs Manhattan, New York MTA - New York City Bus Service is inaugurated on a new bus route, designated M12. It travels north on West Street and 12th Avenue and south on 11th Avenue, terminating north on Columbus Circle at 58th Street and Broadway and south on Abingdon Square at Eighth Avenue and Jane Street. (The route designation is a recycling of a number previously used for the old Spring and Delancey Streets line which had been discontinued on October 26, 1979.)
