Posted by W.B. on Sat Aug 1 18:32:13 2026 This is for instances in New York City bus history where there is no known exact date. 1942: Service to Jamaica Station on North Shore Bus' Q44 line is discontinued, and service to the 165th Street terminal is re-routed via 150th Street, Hillside Avenue, Sutphin Boulevard and Jamaica Avenue. (Source: Motor Coach Age, April-May 1977, article by Bernard Linder.) 1973: The last of a custom order of New Looks built for various MTA agencies - T6H-5309A for regular service, and T6H-5310A for express bus service - begin carrying passengers on a regular basis. On the 5309A end, 4860-4919 enter service in the Bronx (with many holding down the Bx55 route which was created after the last remnant of the old Third Avenue el shut down in the spring) and enable the retirement of the last of the first "Fishbowls" to have entered service in Manhattan back in 1960, built originally for Fifth Avenue Coach Lines and Surface Transit and largely confined since the mid-1960's to the Bronx. As for 5310A's, a total of eight - numbered 105-112 - are built for their Metropolitan Suburban Bus Authority (MSBA) arm. Together with prior orders of both (in March 1972 and January 1973), these are to be the last "New Looks" ever ordered by the MTA; not until 1981 when the RTS-04 arrives on the market would the agency order from GMC again. |
